IV. The allegory of the cave
1. Underground cave means places where there is lack of knowledge. The mouth of the cave indicates the border between stupidity and intelligence. The prisoners symbolize the people who are trapped by their uncivilized state. The people who are not accustomed by truth, the people who gain a little knowledge. The shadow is only false truth next to reality.
- Their lack of knowledge put them there, in darkness of the cave, in the phantasm of life, far beyond the knowledge, far from the ultimate truth.
- People sometimes love to enjoy their original state so that they do not want to leave it even if only for a short pseudo-satisfaction. There are so many temptations of life around us.
- Last of all, it is better to discover our own truth. It is the right to choose, the right to decide our own future. We come to freedom.
Explanation:
Let us stay away of the cave. Let us leave the darkness. Come to the enlightenment! Come to civilization! Knowledge and experience is the partner in our life to fight against darkness. We want our life to become valuable so that we can spend our life enjoyable. The way to gain knowledge is by learning as much as possible. The proverb says “experience is the best teacher”. Learning more means gaining new experiences. The more we are learning, the more experiences we get. Experiences tell us what to do and what not to do. Sometimes in the process of learning, we face some problems and difficulties. It is fair, that is usual. Life is like competitions. We must find the solution. We will get satisfaction after winning them. It is not easy; we must work hard to win the life. There are so many temptations of life around us. We must avoid them. There could be many persuasions attracting us. We must neglect them. Finally we must come to the target of life. We must reach the goal. That is satisfaction.
